ITSCI was delighted to participate in community engagement activities led by member company Twabugezi Exploitation in Rutsiro District, Rusebeya Sector, Remera Cell, Rwanda. Twabugezi Exploitation has 5 mine sites in the Rutsiro district working with around 450 miners. Every year, the company brings together employers, local communities, the Rwandan National Police and local leaders for several strands of activities.

The focus for 2022 was on planting 3,000 trees to help nature regenerate landscapes, increase biodiversity, and offset carbon emissions, as well as donating cows to some of the most vulnerable families in the district. Three families in Manihira, Rusebeya and Murunda Sectors received a cow. The cow donation ceremony supports the ‘Girinka’ programme (one cow per family) launched by the Rwanda government in 2006, aiming at helping people in rural parts of the country.

The company also built a house for Uwimana Console, a young mother in Murunda Sector who expressed her gratitude and praised the company’s actions towards the community.
