ITSCI was delighted to participate in the 5th edition of the Rwanda Mining Week held at the Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village (KCEV) from 05-08 December 2022. Rwanda Prime Minister Dr. Edouard Ngirente officiated the launch of this year’s edition held under the theme “Towards a Modern and Sustainable Mining Sector.”

Hosted by the Rwanda Mines, Petroleum and Gas Board (RMB), in partnership with Rwanda Mining Association, and the University of Rwanda, College of Science and Technology, School of Mining and Geology, the 2022 Rwanda Mining Week bought together mining operators, government institutions, academia, the private sector, and civil society. It consisted of a four-day exhibition, panel discussions, a visit to a mine site, academic lectures and training sessions on legal compliance, safety standards, and best mining practices.

Our Project Manager in Rwanda Ildephonse Niyonsaba shared ITSCI’s experience at the panel discussion ‘From mine to Market’, outlining the value of due diligence in mineral supply chains. ‘For the ITSCI Programme, Mining Week was an opportunity to showcase the achievements in 12 years of good partnership with the government of Rwanda and other stakeholders with regard to capacity building in terms of OECD Due Diligence Guidance and ITSCI procedures with the support from Rwanda Mines, Petroleum and Gas Board (RMB) as well as future plans for data collection.’  Ildephonse Niyonsaba

Launched in Rwanda in 2011, ITSCI now covers 1010 mine sites throughout the country.
