In 2019, Burundi inaugurated its National Steering Committee for 3T Mineral Traceability and Due Diligence. The NSC follows the model established by ITSCI in neighbouring DRC, and is one of the recommendations from the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Mineral Supply Chain from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas.

ITSCI conducted a training to familiarise NCS members with technical aspects of the 3T mining sector, ITSCI procedures, and due diligence requirements.

In September, the NCS visited ITSCI processors/exporters Burundi Minerals Export (BME) and Raw Minerals Resources (RMR). Committee members experienced the traceability process first-hand and grasped the roles of various government agencies in the tagging process.
