Capacity building activities are an integral part of the ITSCI Programme. In partnership with Pact and the Rwanda Mines Board (RMB), our teams conducted training sessions for mining technicians, geologists and environmentalists. The training workshop took place from 6 to 21 June 2022 at five training centres in different districts, including Kigali, Muhanga, Karongi, Musanze and Rwamagana.

The training aimed to provide and equip mining technicians and RMB field staff with appropriate skills and knowledge to sustain mining activities and increase collaboration. RMB field staff is working closely with companies in tagging and recording their production on ITSCI logbooks.

The main topics addressed by ITSCI and RMB included OECD due diligence and other ITSCI procedures, ICGLR mineral certification, mining law and regulations, mining technics, environmental management best practices, mining exploration in Rwanda, occupational health and safety (OHS).

A total of 258 participants (186 males and 72 females) attended the training. The most frequent feedbacks from participants were to provide more training to cover the gaps observed.

The participants were grateful to ITSCI for having organised and supported the training sessions and promised a positive impact on their daily work.
