Mitwaba Comité Local de Suivi leads successful awareness campaign against child labour in mining

In response to the persistent issue of child labour on mining sites, the local multi-stakeholder committee of Mitwaba town, Haut-Katanga Province, DRC, with facilitation from ITSCI, spearheaded a comprehensive awareness campaign throughout May 2025. The campaign targeted key mine sites in Mitwaba territory and expanded its reach into broader community spaces such as markets and churches.

Safeguarding Children in Mining Communities: Awareness-Raising of the DRC Mining Code in South Kivu Province

One of the most powerful outcomes of this project has been the increased awareness of mining communities in Nyabibwe and Numbi towns, South Kivu Province. Artisanal miners, having gained a deeper understanding of the legal frameworks protecting children and the inherent risks for children at mine sites, took steps to address the issue.
